Pontacol Adhesive Films for Metal – Plastic Composites

The key elements of lightweight design are a significant contribution to CO2 savings and resource efficiency. Since reducing the weight to be transported requires less energy for propulsion, the role of efficient metal-plastic hybrid constructions has been increasingly important. For affordable and efficient manufacturing of hybrid structural or décor components, Pontacol has developed adhesive films with which dissimilar materials such as plastic and metal can be firmly bonded without pre-treatement and in one production step.

The required metal is laminated with a multilayer thermoplastic adhesive film, followed by an injection molding process onto the adhesive film coated metal. The pre-coating process of the metal with the adhesive film is clean, environmentally friendly and cost-efficient. Pontacol multilayer adhesive films are specially designed to have a strong adhesion to metal on one side, whiles the other side is specific matching high bonding strength to the injected polymers such as ABS, PC-ABS or PA. Through the cohesive connection of otherwise incompatible materials such as metal and plastic, they enable an even distribution of force, which opens up new application possibilities for lightweight structural components.
