Pontacol adhesive films for honeycomb panel composites

Composite applications, such as honeycomb sandwiches, are often exposed to extreme weather conditions and high mechanical loads. The central requirement in the production of aluminum honeycomb panels is the efficient application of adhesive to the right place. The adhesive films developed by Pontacol specifically for such applications permanently achieve higher strength than conventional adhesive systems.

Sandwich structures aim to increase the wall thickness and thus the area moment of inertia without allowing the mass to increase linearly. These constructions essentially consist of a pressure-resistant, lightweight core that is frictionally connected to thin-walled cover layers. Pontacol adhesive films offer tailor-made formulations and can transfer both the bending and torsional forces in fiber composite solutions or in aluminum honeycomb structures.

Picutre: Adhesive film concentration on aluminum honeycomb edges

Since the honeycombs have only small contact surfaces with the cover sheet, great attention must be paid to the power transmission from the honeycomb edge to the cover layer. For this purpose, a system was developed in which the adhesive is concentrated on the contact surfaces from an adhesive film surface (see image).

Thanks to this method, it is possible to make the concentration of adhesive so effective that 3 times the strength can be achieved with half the amount of adhesive.
