On Friday, July 8, 2022, Pontacol celebrated its 50th anniversary with neighbors, local partners and media representatives, business and government representatives and the workforce. During a tour of the company, the guests were given an insight into the history and production. After the official part, the celebrations continued with employees and families. Pontacol is proud of the anniversary, but given the world situation and crises, the whole ceremony was celebrated on a modest scale. In Buxtehude, a total of 42 people work in production, warehouse and administration, in Switzerland, at the Pontacol headquarters in Schmitten, 58.

General Director, Dr. Ralf Hoppe, and Site Director Buxtehude, Markus Nagel, welcomed the guests and guided them through the program. Thermoplastic films have been produced on the Alter Postweg in Buxtehude for 50 years now. As a branch of Balatros, the coating of polymers on textiles and, soon after, the extrusion of thermoplastic foils and films was started at the current location of Pontacol GmbH. With the takeover of the location by the Gutacoll company, the core competence of extrusion could be further promoted and the specialization towards thermoplastic adhesive films and coatings was advanced. Significant investments have been made in the Pontacol GmbH production site in recent years. In addition to the renovation and expansion of buildings, a state-of-the-art plant park was created. This not only made Pontacol fit for the future, but also further strengthened its market position.

Die Herstellung von Klebefilmen wurde im 1972 durch die damalige Firma Balatros eingeführt.

The production of adhesive films was introduced in 1972 by the former company Balatros.

Adhesive films from Pontacol impress with their resistance to external influences and stick even after years, which leads to longer life cycles of the finished products. The adhesive films from Pontacol are used in the textile and automotive industries, for example for high-quality textiles that are no longer sewn but glued, in the manufacture of car headliners, airbags, interior trim strips or in bulletproof vehicle armor or protective vests for personal protection. Adhesive films from Pontacol can also be found in composite products, especially in shipbuilding or decorative furniture and wall surfaces through to magnetic walls. After all, they are used in medicine, for example for various plasters or medical protective clothing.

Wherever possible, Pontacol reduces the power consumption of the production process. About a third of the power consumption of the administration building in Buxtehude is produced by our own PV systems in a climate-friendly manner. Despite the higher price, Pontacol buys the remaining electricity as certified green eco-electricity from Stadtwerke Buxtehude. At the Swiss headquarters, only hydroelectric power is used.
